The
country of Mali

In
the 1970s to the early 1980s, Mali faced years of serious drought,
causing widespread hunger, loss of livestock and the weakening of its
economy. Today, Mali is one of the world’s poorest countries.
Since
the presidential election in April of 2002, stability has increased
throughout Mali. As a result, the new government is now tackling the
challenge of improving basic services, including health and
education.
